I've had the same problem in places where I can't see why my Boingo account wouldn't work (i.e. not premium or odd locations) and it was the same when I had an iPhone on O2 - the free WiFi from The Cloud was rock solid, but Openzone repeatedly asked me to re-authenticate (and often failed or timed-out when I did). My suspicion is that it’s just BT’s authentication infrastructure that’s crap.
